Vermont Abandoned Track Removal

VermontLocation: St. Albans, Vt.
Project Owner: State of Vermont

National recycled more than 15,000 tons of steel from this job, enough to manufacture more than 16,000 cars.

National Salvage & Service Corporation purchased 95 miles of abandoned railroad track in the mountains from the State of Vermont. National removed the track and restored the site, which is now a snowmobile trail.

National performed the removal in mountainous terrain and environmentally sensitive areas over 18 months. More than 266,000 railroad ties — nearly all the ties removed — and 15,000 tons of steel were recycled from this job.
